Technology Offerings

Connecting Our Community With Technology

Sarah Standing by printer

In 2024, 27,549 copies were made at the Syracuse Public Library. That's about 55 packets of paper!

In this digital age, access to technology is vital; it helps find employment, connect with family and friends, and so much more. Syracuse Public Library believes everyone should have access to it.

With this aim, the library has invested in various technologies to better serve our community. Anyone, with or without a library card, can access many of our technology offerings, including our public computers, fax machine, printer/copier/scanner, and high-speed Wi-Fi.

We encourage the community to explore and use our technology offerings.

Free Wi-Fi

Graphic showing the steps of signing in to the Wi-Fi network
Anyone can use SPL's high-speed internet by signing into our public Wi-Fi either within the library or outside on its grounds.
General Public: Go to your Wi-Fi settings and select LibraryWiFi. Depending on your a device, a pop up may appear saying "Sign in to Wi-Fi network." Click it and the "SPOT" wireless page will appear. On that page, there will be a box where you will put in your initials. Then hit Accept. You are connected.
*Note: If the SPOT page does not pop up, pull down your device menu and hit the instructions "Sign into Wi-Fi network." You may also have to "Forget Network" to refresh the connection before trying to connect again.

Students: Come to either circulation desk for us to put in the Wi-Fi password for studentwifi because LibraryWiFi doesn't work on school devices.

Public Computer Access

Visiting the children's department and want to check your email or browse the web? Ask to check out a laptop for in-library use at the circulation desk.

Whether you are a SPL patron or not, you can use our public computers for free. If you have a library card, type in your card number. Forgot your card or don't have one? Use one of our daily computer guest passes.

SPL has eight public computers available upstairs, which includes two in our Rosalyn Jones Room/young adult space. Those visiting our children's department can also check out one of three laptops for in-library use. Printing is available from any of the computers.

In our nonfiction area upstairs, one computer is connected to a microfilm reader, perfect for those researching local history via our historical newspaper collection.

Take The Internet With You

Library card holders can check out our hotspots and take the internet home with you!
To check out a hotspot, library card holders must have a Syracuse Public Library card and be at least 18 years of age. They must also be in good standing with the library, with a current address on file and no fines above $10.

Hotspots are available for checkout lengths of two weeks (no renewals), and only one hotspot can be checked out per family at a time. Always return hotspots inside the library and never in the outdoor drop box.

Indiana Legal Help Kiosk

Indiana Legal Help kiosk
Syracuse Public Library hosts an Indiana Legal Help kiosk, which offers access to legal forms, instructional videos, referrals to free and low-cost legal services, and a statewide calendar of free legal advice clinics.

Anyone can use this kiosk for free.

The kiosk project is managed by the Indiana Bar Foundation, which runs the website in partnership with the Coalition for Court Access, and the kiosks are funded by a grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.

Broaden The Reach Of Your Library Card

SPL patrons can use their library cards to access hundreds of digital e-books, audiobooks, magazines, TV shows, movies, documentaries, and even music albums via Libby and hoopla. SPL staff are available to help get you started! Patrons can also find more materials through the Evergreen Indiana Library Consortium.
