Teen Cafe Returns To SPL

Teen Cafe will return to Syracuse Public Library in January!

During each cafe, Amber will break out the Nintendo Switch and board/card games for teens to play. Teens can also bring their homework to work on and get help from Amber if they have questions.

A teen cafe wouldn’t be complete without snacks and beverages! Amber will have a variety for teens to enjoy.

Come and go as you need to from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, in the Rosalyn Jones Room.

Program Highlights

Teen Storytime

Each month, teens can attend Teen Storytime to have a sample from various books read to them. Each month will have a different theme and different genres. This is a unique way to uncover new stories. Teens are also welcome to bring a book of their own to quietly read. This program meets from 5-6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month in the Rosalyn Jones Room aka the teen space.

Learn Something New

From 3:30-4:30 p.m. every second Monday in the Rosalyn Jones Room, teens can learn new life skills.

Learn a Language with Amber

Learn a Language with Amber, meets from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, in the Rosalyn Jones Room. Teens will learn a new language of their choice. Bring electronic devices to this program since the library has a limited number of public computers. Printouts will also be available.

History Through Song

History and music lovers unite for this program that will explore history through song lyrics. History Through Song will learn about the Dust Bowl with Mumford & Sons' song, "Dust Bowl Dance." Join the program from 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the downstairs meeting room.

Don't know what to read? Teens in grades 6-12 can sign up for a personalized Book Box that holds two library books and some fun surprises, including snacks, bookmarks, stickers, pins, and more. Click the image above to sign up by filling out a form about the books you like. Paper sign-up forms are also available at the library. To participate, teens must have a valid library card. There can only be 10 subscribers at a time; the rest will be added to a waiting list.

Young Adult Clubs

YA Writing Club meets from 3:30-4:30 p.m. every second Friday of the month. Each session features snacks! Click the image to set a Remind so you never miss a session!

All ages can join Chess Club from 4-5 p.m. each Friday in the library's downstairs meeting room.

Watch anime and learn about Japanese culture from 6-7:30 p.m. the last Thursday of the month. Click the image to set up a Remind so you never miss a club meeting! NOTE: Some animes may have more mature themes.

Bringing Reading To Life

Come and Relax

Young adults have created a cozy space in the Rosalyn Jones Room to come and relax after school or during breaks. From games and public computers to a reading nook and different books, it's the perfect place to unwind! We are hoping to add to the space.
